First responders have confirmed that an explosion has occurred at an explosives manufacturer.
The incident happened at Accurate Energetic Systems near Bucksnort, Tennessee, WSMV reported.
Update 2:34 p.m. ET, Oct. 10: Three people had minor injuries TriStar Health spokesperson Casey Stapp said. Two were released and a third was being treated in the emergency room, CNN reported.
Update 12:35 p.m. ET, Oct. 10: Humphreys County Sheriff Chris David said that there are deaths related to the explosion but he did not provide an exact number. He also did not say what caused the blast, The Associated Press reported.
Residents felt the explosion miles away from the company’s location.
Update 11:56 a.m. ET, Oct. 10: Local media outlets are reporting that at least 19 people are missing in the blast.
Local officials said that there were at least 19 people unaccounted for, WKRN reported. Several others have been hospitalized.
WTVF said the explosion happened near the time of a regular shift change on Friday morning. WKRN said the blast happened at about 7:50 a.m. local time.
Crews were worried about secondary explosions
Original report: Emergency officials are asking that people avoid the area to allow crews to work.
Members of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are responding since the business involves explosives, WKRN reported.
According to the company’s website, the company specializes “in the development, manufacture, handling, and storage of a diverse array of energetic products and explosives for military, aerospace, and commercial demolition markets.”
