PHILADELPHIA — A 12-year-old boy was fatally shot Sunday morning as he answered the door at home, police said.
Philadelphia police said there was a knock at the door around 2:45 a.m., and when the boy answered a single shot was fired through the door’s window, hitting the child in the head, WCAU reported.
The boy’s identity has not been released. He was home with his grandmother and 10-year-old sister, KYW-TV reported.
Police do not believe the boy was the shooter’s intended target. No arrests have been made.
“What we know at this time is that there was a knock at the door,” Deputy Commissioner Melvin Singleton said. “No descriptions of any persons at the door, one shot was fired. We do have on the porch of the location one 9mm shell casing and that’s all we know at this particular point in time.”
