Jacksonville, FLA — The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department announced today, that a headstone is being placed in the Old City Cemetery to memorialize the first firefighter, Henry J. Bradley, who died in the line of duty on December 16th, 1885, in Jacksonville.
The ceremony will be led by the JFRD Director and Fire Chief Keith Powers, and Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry.

JACKSONVILLE, Florida, April 24, 2023 — Henry J. Bradley was the first Jacksonville Firefighter killed in the Line of Duty on December 16th, 1885. Recent research by a group of our members, active and retired, determined that there was no headstone to Mr. Bradley’s grave. These men worked together to raise funds through private donations to ensure that our beloved fallen firefighter had a proper headstone. Please join Mayor Curry and Chief Powers at the unveiling of this headstone
