Jacksonville FL — Debt collectors are nothing new, but Consumer Warrior Clark Howard says recently the feds decided that they could contact you through any electronic means necessary to try and get you to pay your debt.
“They could text you even hundreds of times a day”. Clark says.
There is one way that Clark says you could get them off your back through the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. He says you could send them a letter, and then they would have to stop contacting you.
“Now they can still sue you against the debt, they can ruin your credit, but they have to leave you alone”. Clark says.
Clark says if you still own money, then you should pay it off, but this is a way to at least stop the harassing calls and messages.
