The Jacksonville Jaguars latest head coach Liam Coen recently made headlines for his awkward “Duval” chant at his introductory press conference.
Fortunately for coach, this one doesn’t even crack the list of top 10 most awkward NFL press conferences of all-time. These gatherings went sideways for one reason or another, but have left their imprint on pop culture for years, and will continue to for a long time.
For example, who could forget Dennis Green, who at the time was coaching the Cardinals who were just beat by the Bears?
This one gets bonus points who the team PR person dismissing the coach on the end of the rant.
Next up is hall of fame wide receiver Terrell Owens, who upon hearing a reporter give criticism to his QB Tony Romo, turned on the waterworks.
Up next is a 4-minute protest by former Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch. The RB dubbed “Beast Mode” clearly didn’t want to talk to the media on this day, but also clearly had no interest in paying the fine for skipping the press conference.
Sometimes, players refuse to answer questions, and the reporters who follow-up with more questions can push a player over the edge, as Derek Anderson found out one night after Monday Night Football.
After a big game, press conferences are expected, and usually uneventful. That WAS NOT the case however after the Seahawks won the Superbowl in 2014. The MVP of the game was Seattle LB Malcolm Smith, who was rudely interrupted by a truther who just had to have the spotlight.
And finally, who could make any list of awkward press conferences, without including the GOAT Jim Mora.
